Farewell, cypress

cypress masso recently entered her post-Bocoup era, and while her stans haven’t yet agreed on the name of that era, we think it’s only right to reflect on what made our two years together so remarkable.

Among other credentials, cypress’ long history of empathy and technical acumen in open-source projects made her an easy hire. Indeed, that experience set Bocoup up for success in our subsequent consulting engagement with the Processing Foundation. She routinely impressed her project manager, Carmen, with the speed at which she delivered high-quality patches for that project.

That said, slaying code is table stakes for developers at Bocoup. Around these parts, we’re much more interested in values. cypress’s humor was an essential asset for the team. She was a riot to have on consulting calls and endeavored to bring all participants in on the gags. She was also Bocoup’s most prolific emoji author, contributing one hundred and sixty-three tiny pictures ranging from An emoji named "cowboy eyes" depicting two cartoon eyes, each adorned with its own cowboy hat. to An emoji named "surprised pikachu loop" depicting a cartoon animal with its mouth gaping open..

cypress’ most inspiring contribution, though, has been her dedication. Readers of this blog may recall that Bocoup became a worker-owned co-op only a couple months ago. cypress had been anticipating her departure for much longer than that, but her commitment to her coworkers and the ideals of collective ownership never wavered. She helped manage the finances of the transfer for the better part of a year, even as she prepared to move on. More than any other quality, cypress’ integrity makes us simultaneously glum about her departure yet confident in the success of her next endeavor.

Thanks, cypress, and good luck!
