Sue is a Sr. Open Web Engineer, working as a Team Lead on projects at Bocoup, where she makes sure that client initiatives run smoothly from start to finish. She helps clients by assessing their current stacks and technical issues while creating a plan to achieve their goals using open source tools.

She is a full stack engineer, comfortable with setting up site’s deployment infrastructure, api design, writing database schemas (for document stores to relational dbs), doing frontend work and even user research. Her code is tested, documented, and written keeping in mind the client’s goals and the next engineer who will inherit the codebase. While she works primarily in JavaScript and Node.js, Sue is equally proficient in Ruby, PHP, and Python.

Sue came to Bocoup from Cloudant — a company since acquired by IBM — where she was a Developer and worked developing a new admin interface for CouchDB called Fauxton. While working on Fauxton, she became a member of the Apache Foundation.

Sue is graduate of Boston University with a Bachelor’s in Psychology. Her concentration while getting her degree was in neuropsychology and Learning & Behavior, the latter being extremely useful while working engineering. Throughout her career in tech, she’s applied learning and behavior sciences to her work in order to create applications that are easy to use and backed by real user data.

Sue is also an artist, illustrator, a math nerd, and loves to research the mathematics behind color theory.
