We launched our first production WP API project back in 2014; both the API itself and our understanding of how best to use it have evolved a lot since then! The Rest API project makes WordPress more than a platform—it makes it viable as a component that developers can integrate into other systems.

In this talk I share our experiences building applications that couple with WordPress, and demonstrate the tools and libraries we’ve built to easily query and write to WP from within external JavaScript applications. I also share some thoughts on how the REST API actually came to be included into WordPress core, and where we are going with it next.
